Personal Experience
Wernher matriculated at Hoërskool Groote Schuur, Newlands, Cape Town in 1987.
He commenced his academic training at the University of Stellenbosch in 1988 and completed BA (Law) and LLB degrees. He started his career in the legal department of Santam Insurance, Cape Town where he ended up as a Claims Manager, before joining Visagie Vos Attorneys, Cape Town as a candidate attorney in 1996. He was admitted as an attorney in 1998 and became a partner at Visagie Vos in 1999. He joined Hannes Pretorius in 2003 with whom he has since been practising in partnership. He passed a course in the Administration of Wills and Estates at UNISA during 2016.
Wernher is a no-nonsense litigator who has acted for numerous international, national and local clients with great success over the years.
He specializes in High Court litigation, including, but not limited to:
Opposed Divorces;
Liquidations;
Sequestrations;
Rehabilitations; and
Civil Litigation.
He is also an Executor of deceased estates and acts as Curator for persons not able to handle their own affairs.
He is actively involved in the community and received the Caring for Sharing award from the Helderberg Society for the Aged in 2013 after generating funds in excess of R500 000 for the Society.
He also served as Trustee of the Wingfield College, Trustee of Northlink College, Vice Chairman of the Helderberg Sakekamer, Committee Member of the Gordon’s Bay Rugby Club, Secretary of the Helderberg Rugby Club, Committee Member of the Strand Golf Club (of which he was Club Captain in 2005,2006,2011,2012 and 2014 and Club President in 2009 and 2010) and is a Past Captain of Boland Nomads Golf Club.
He is a keen golfer and enjoys the camaraderie and everything else that surrounds the participation of his beloved sport. He played rugby for the first teams of Maties, Hamiltons, Gordons Bay and Helderberg on his day and was also a first league cricketer.
